About

Welcome to the personal blog of Susan Rose Francois, CSJP. That’s me! I am a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace. I am a member of Generation X, a former bureaucrat, a writer, a seeker of peace through justice, and a finally professed member of my religious community.

I blogged my journey into Roman Catholic vowed religious life at Musings of a Discerning Woman for many years. That blog is still live (so you can read all about novitiate, initial formation and my graduate school adventures).
I started this new blog in 2014 when I was finishing one adventure (graduate studies at Catholic Theological Union where I was a Bernardin Scholar) and beginning another in elected leadership for my congregation. As I update this about me page in 2023, I am still in leadership, two years into my second term.

The name of this blog (At the Corner of Susan and St. Joseph) was inspired by an actual street sign I saw a few years ago in Wenatchee, Washington. Obviously, I took a picture of the sign. It’s located across the street from an elementary school that our Sisters staffed for many years. We are no longer ministering in Wenatchee, but I made a little pilgrimage a few years ago when I happened to be driving through town on my way to give a presentation. I parked my car at the intersection of Susan and St. Joseph Place, a fact which I did not realize until I was ready to leave. The synchronicity of the moment struck me then, and the picture I took has given me many opportunities to contemplate in deep gratitude this wonderful adventure God has invited me to participate in. Really, I can’t think of a better place to be than at the corner of Susan and St. Joseph, pursuing social justice as a path to peace.
